Wayne Winkler Presents at NC Museum of History 2010

Wayne Winkler to present in Raleigh, NC on June 5, 2010
Melungeon researcher Wayne Winkler will speak at the Ninth Annual African American Cultural Celebration on Saturday, June 5, at the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh, North Carolina. Winkler, author of Walking Toward the Sunset: The Melungeons of Appalachia, will discuss the origins of the Melungeons, with emphasis on the free African-American families of North Carolina and Virginia. Winkler’s presentation will be at 12:15 pm in the Demonstration Gallery on the Lobby Level. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and signing.Featuring more than 50 presenters, this lively festival will have loads of hands-on activities for all ages. Truly a celebration, the variety of dancers, musicians, actors, authors, storytellers, artists, craftspeople and others will bring to life the rich history and culture of the state’s African Americans, past and present. Admission and parking are free.
